What to say? Well, it’s about time!
Here in Romania this is a subject which circulates mostly among trendy young leftists, otherwise people use to think that a big car completes one’s big personality. But even somebody like me is sensible to this. I never had a car (one reason I love Europe) until a year ago (it’s for the kids, my wife drives it), can you imagine this? Public transportation and walking are good enough, if you can manage to afford them.
So, I salute this new trend and wish it the best!
Let me finish by expressing my appreciation for the final part of the talk given by Baez, where he explains how the first world revolution, the agricultural revolution, led to some amazing mathematics. He expresses the hope that the actual revolution, caused by environmental issues (but also by the invention of the net, I might add) will lead to significantly new math, a view expressed also by Gromov, several times.
